Families pack up picnic baskets with food, drink, favorite objects of the dead and they head off to the cemetary. They go with faces painted white with black trim, and some wear skeleton costumes. They decorate the graves of their loved ones and set up altars. Families sit around and talk with and of their loved ones who have passed away. They remember the good times and celebrate the lives of the ones they have lost.

Here in San Antonio, people take off from work and plan to spend the whole day at the cemetary with their familes!

There are festivals in Mexico and in many towns and cities in Texas. Museums have exhibits set up around town. There are parades and various other types of celebrations. The temperature has finally cooled down and we have been enjoying the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s over the past few weeks. It is a wonderful change from the upper 90s and 100+ temps we suffered through all summer long. We have had the worst drought in 500 years according to some newscasts here. Recently we had some beautiful rain, but we are still in the drought and we need about 18 inches more to catch up to where we are supposed to be, but now that it is cooler, I think we will be okay.

If you have been putting your visit off due to the heat, now is the time to come to San Antonio and have a blast. The theme parks and major attractions are still open, although some are on limited schedules. The weather is perfect and the sun is shining so come on down and enjoy the Riverwalk and pay homage to the heroes of the Alamo. SeaWorld San Antonio is still open through Christmas on limited days. Avoid the crowds of the summer and enjoy your stay. The shopping is fabulous downtown as well as at our many malls around the city. Best of all, have some of the best Tex-Mex food you have ever had here in the Alamo City.
